Miao's Sod Farm is the largest and closest sod farm of City of St.John's, Newfoundland, and we always produce best quality Kentucky Bluegrass Sod. In August 2015, we took over Polar Farm which is at 215 Northern Pond Road, near the TCH Exit 40 in the city of St. John’s, bordering on Cochrane Pond Park and Country Ribbon Chicken Farm. In June 2017, we took over Hussey's Sodding Service which is at Hodgewater Line, Makinsons.
Both locations were started from 20+ years ago, it was boggy land, no road, and poor drainage – similar to most barren land in Newfoundland. It has taken over 20 years to bring farm to where it is now. Concentration up until the last couple of years was heavily in to land clearing and enhancements, road work construction for easy of assess to fields, ditching and profiling for proper drainage, and investments in farming equipment.
All roads, ditches, profiling, land cleaning and land enhancement are now complete. This year, and in years to come, the only thing left to do besides regular maintenance and upkeep is simply to reseed after each harvest.
Our farm is now in the position that going forward it will see easy operating. All of necessary equipment including sod cutter, numerous tractors, seeder, profiler, ditcher, sprayer, leveler, rake, spreader etc, as well as an excavator, wheel loader, deliver truck, hitchhiker forklift – all maintained and kept in excellent condition which will last for many years to come.
After over 20 years development, our farm has 80 acres best quality Kentucky Bluegrass sod to service St. John’s CMA. We can produce over 2 million square foot of sod in the short time of 4 months which it operates. Usually we sold 1.2 to 1.5 million square feet per year to residential, commercial and industrial clients base on the weather and marketing.
